Currently operate a small business tutoring individuals in their homes on basic use of IBM compatible and Macintosh computers. Training ranges from basic computer operation and what to look for when purchasing a computer to word processing and Internet navigation.

University of California, Science Library, On-call Librarian (10/99 - Present)

Perform reference services for students, professors, and community members. Train patrons on how to search the California Digital Library databases.

Santa Cruz Public Library, Senior Library Assistant - Aptos Branch (6/97 - 7/00)

Perform reference services at second largest branch in city/county library system. Place book/media requests, answer ready-reference and in-depth questions, assist with patron research. Assist branch manager with deselecting books and ascertaining annual reference needs. Verify interlibrary loans. Create and maintain ready reference files web page.

New Brighton Middle School Library, Library Specialist (10/95 - 6/97)

Perform a variety of technical and clerical duties involving maintaining a school library such as circulation, reference and record keeping, and act as the prime resource person regarding materials available. The New Brighton Middle School Library also houses the collection of the Capitola Elementary School Library, and therefore library services are directed towards students and faculty from both schools. Duties include training and supervising the work of student and/or volunteer aides, preparing displays, assisting students on the computer, assisting in selection, ordering, and processing of books, collecting fines and providing notification and follow-up on overdue materials, researching requests from students and teachers, and coordinating class visits to the library for grades K-8.

Santa Cruz Public Library, Temporary Circulation Clerk and On-call Clerk (10/94 - Present)

Perform routine circulation functions at the Central Branch such as charging, discharging, and routing books, periodicals, videocassette, records, and compact disks. Work constantly with patrons in the above tasks as well as issue library cards, collect fines, fill requests, and explain library policies. As on-call clerk, also answer basic reference questions, help patrons use the PAC, and place requests for patrons.

BDM Federal, Inc. , Library Technician (12/92 - 10/94)

Advanced Information Management, Library Technician (5/92-9/92)

Worked on team project with AIM and BDM employees to complete the first phases of a government contract concerning the Combat Training Center Archives at the Army Research Institute in Monterey. Processed incoming data from the three Combat Training Centers which included After Action Review videotapes, paper and digital data. Assigned mission IDs subsequently used for cataloging data within Training Automated Research Catalog (TRACS). Gathered and entered weapons data for the Battle Damage Assessment and helped design BDA data entry software and weapons/targets categories. Entered Take Home Package data and assisted workshop attendees in locating Archive materials. Assisted in developing a new floor plan that rearranged Archive holdings and made them more accessible.

Watsonville Public Library, Library Assistant (6/90-9/90)

Temporarily assisted in completing backlog of cataloging projects. Cataloged Mexican and Spanish-language music cassettes, paperback books, and some video materials on BIBLIOFILE under the direction of senior catalogers. Familiar with all phases of acquisition process for paperbacks, including barcoding, sensitization, and preparation for shelving in main stacks.

Processed incoming and outgoing borrowing and lending requests, both books and Xeroxing. Assisted library patrons making interlibrary loan requests in person and by telephone. Input and retrieved bibliographic information via computerized databases. Typed Interlibrary Loan forms and performed miscellaneous clerical duties.

CAPCON Library Network, Member Services Library Technician, Washington, D.C. (4/86-4/88)

Maintained On-line Union List Databases (through OCLC) for 150 Law Librarians Society of DC members and seventeen academic libraries belonging to Capital Area On-line Services project; maintained office membership, accounts and microcomputer databases. Assisted professional staff with editing and production of Quarterly Technical Memoranda, newsletters and correspondence. Performed secretarial duties as needed including extensive use of WordPerfect.

Assisted in major retrospective conversion process including searching and editing OCLC records, producing catalog cards and computer tape, and final transformation of tape into Senate Library Computerized Catalog (SLCC). Experience using communications and fax/modem software such as WinFax and Procomm, and a wide range of Internet client applications. Experienced with Macintosh computers and related software including Filemaker Pro, Clarisworks, and various communications programs. Experience installing software for and navigating the Internet.
