I've been a potter for about fifteen years. I used to not want to classify myself as a "hobby" potter, but given the time constraints of my many other interests, such as graduate school, and of course, making a living - I have to admit that the amount of time I can currently devote to potting is minimal. I create mostly functional pottery, but I am interested in reviving a form of ancient Ukrainian pottery from the Trypillian (Neolithic) era. This type of pottery is characterized by swirling black geometric designs on a white or red background. The pottery is low fire and mostly decorative. If any one out there has information about Trypillian style pottery or culture, I'd love to hear from you.
